Anna RIsius MCSP catagory ‘A’ member of ACPAT (association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy) is a Chartered Physiotherapist, providing physiotherapy services to human, equine and canine clients. She is based in Somerton, Somerset.
Anna graduated Bsc(Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of East Anglia in 2002 and completed the Masters level Royal Veterinary College degree in 2006.
Anna worked in the NHS for five years, predominantly in the musculo-skeletal field working in fracture clinics and gym based rehabilitation. She then spent five years combining her veterinary physiotherapy work with work at the Abbey Clinic, Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre where she treated sports injuries, and was involved with the musculoskeletal profiling of athletes including riders.
Since 2004 she has been part of Anna Johnson and Associates, a busy practice based in Buckinghamshire that treats human, equine and canine athletes at all levels from Olympic to happy hacking!
In 2009, Anna was physiotherapist to the GB men’s dragon boat team at their world championships in Prague and has previously travelled with the Gold medal winning single carriage driving team to many events culminating in their world championships in Rome. She regularly provides physiotherapy to horse and rider at major international three day
London 2012events both here and abroad, including Badminton, Burghley, Saumur in France, Boekelo in Holland and Luhmuhlen in Germany. This work has led to a recent fulfilment of a lifetimes ambition as Anna was one of fourteen treating veterinary physiotherapists at the London 2012 Olympic games. More recently she has been helping USEF riders as part of Anna Johnson & Associates, plus private clients at the major UK 3-day events.
Anna has written articles and been interviewed about physiotherapy for Horse Health Magazine and Horse and Hound and in British Dressage magazine highlighting the musculo-skeletal profiling system – Anna-Risius-article She has given careers talks and demonstrations and would be willing to do so for local schools and riding clubs etc so please feel free to contact her to arrange one.
Anna has a personal interest in dressage, having competed up to medium level and has been a member of her local riding club for a number of years, including time as the dressage secretary. She lives near Somerton with her husband, two sons, a working Labrador and two equines – Billy the Irish sports horse and a pony for the children!
